The Fifth Amendment - The Fifth Amendment is famous for people saying "I'll take the Fifth". This gives people the right to choose not to testify in court if they feel their own testimony will incriminate themselves.
In addition this amendment protects citizens from being subject to criminal prosecution and punishment without due process. It also prevents people from being tried for the same crime twice. The amendment also establishes the power of eminent domain, which means that private property can not be seized for public use without just compensation.US_Flag_Backlit.jpg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:US_Flag_Backlit.jpg

Amendments 5-11

In Amendments 5-11 they talk about very important things that help our states and our government in many different ways. These amendments also help the citizens of the states a lot. For example, the 5th Amendment, is for the people accused of a crime. It helps them justify against prosecution and punishment without due process. Due process means fair treatment through the normal judicial system. The 6th Amendment guarantees these individuals a speedy trial by jury of one’s peers. Also, for the people accused of the crime, they are informed of their crime(s) in which they have committed, and what they are being charged for. The 7th amendment states that all civil cases, a legal argument between two or more people, be tried by jury. The 8th amendment, does not allow for excessive bail, excessive fines, and unusual punishments. In the 9th amendment, it is stated that the list of rights found in the Constitution is not complete, and that people have rights that are not necessarily listed. For example, the right of privacy - the constitution doesn't directly mention this term anywhere, but courts often rule that certain amendments imply such a right. The 10th amendment of the United States Constitution is a guarantee of States' rights. All powers not given to the USA government in the constitution, will be given to the states or the people. This was designed to give the federal government limited powers- the federal government only has powers over the things specifically given to it in the constitution . All other powers are reserved for the states. Lastly, the 11th admendment protects the states from lawsuits filed by citizens of other states or countries by setting limits on when states can be sued. It focuses on giving protection to states from law suits by out-of-state citizens and foreigners living outside state borders. For example, a Texan can't sue Florida. In conclusion, amendments 5-11 are very important because they explain our rights and duties as US citizens, they protect our rights, and they help to maintain a limited federal government. Also we learned many new words and their deffintions, due process is fair treatment through the normal judicial system, esp, as citizen’s entitlement.
